The Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin (WRA) awarded the 2024 John L. Buzzi Scholarship to Nolan Wilson, a 2024 graduate of Appoquinimick High School. The scholarship recognizes Wilson’s outstanding academic achievements, passion for water resources and environmental science, and meaningful service to his community.
Wilson, who maintained an impressive GPA while taking a rigorous course load of AP and honors classes, participated in Appoquinimick High School’s Natural Pathways Program, which solidified his commitment to pursuing a degree in Marine and Environmental Science. Appoquinimick High School’s Natural Pathways Program is for students who want to develop the professional knowledge and skills needed to conserve, steward, and manage natural resources and the environment. Wilson earned membership in the National Honor Society, and also played on the Varsity Baseball team.
“We are thrilled to award the 2024 Buzzi Scholarship to Nolan Wilson, a member of Appoquinimick High School’s Class of 2024,” said Skelly Holmbeck, WRA Executive Director. “Nolan’s academic prowess and work ethic shine through in his academic record. His teachers noted his passion for conservation, his integrity, and his service to the community. Nolan is an outstanding student whose intellectual curiosity and dedication to problem solving will bring a fresh perspective to the many water resources challenges we face locally and worldwide.”
Nolan will be attending The University of Delaware in the fall, majoring in Marine Biology and Environmental Science.
John K. Buzzi’s Legacy
In 2003, WRA established the John L. Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the late Dr. John L. Buzzi (1936-2003), a former chairman of WRA and member of the Board of Directors who was a highly respected and greatly admired water resource engineering professional, and a dedicated community leader within and outside the Delaware River Basin. Every year, WRA awards the Buzzi Scholarship to an exemplary student who resides within the Delaware River Basin watershed and is pursuing a water resources related degree.
The application requirements for he 2025 Buzzi Scholarship will be posted on the WRA website in September.
