Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Buzzi Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior in the Delaware River Basin who demonstrates outstanding achievement, and is pursuing a field of study critical to water resources.

In 2003, the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin (WRA) established the John L Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the late Dr. John L. Buzzi (1936-2003), a former chairman of WRA and member of the Board of Directors who was a highly respected and greatly admired water resource engineering professional, and a dedicated community leader within and outside the Delaware River Basin. WRA is pleased to announce the availability of $1,000 in scholarship funds for the purpose of educating an aspiring water resources student.

ELIGIBILITY

The applicant must (1) be attending an accredited junior college, college or university for the fall semester of 2025, (2) have an interest in issues related to water resources, and (3) be a high school senior, residing within the Delaware River Basin watershed. The immediate family members of WRA’s Board of Directors are not eligible.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The scholarship will be awarded to a student qualified by academic performance, who exhibits an interest in a water resource and environmental issue(s) and solutions and is also involved in the community. Measures of academic performance include a respectable cumulative GPA for grades ten through twelve and a statement of career goals. Job history or volunteer information related to a water resources or environmental field will also be considered. Measures of community involvement include activities that are of benefit to the community at-large.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Complete the Application Form and provide a summary of academic interests and achievements, job and volunteer history, extracurricular and community activities, and career goals as they relate to the above selection criteria. Summaries should be limited to about 700 words. The application must include two letters of reference (they can be generic but preferably from teachers, community leaders, mentors and/or counselors) and a transcript with grades for all courses taken within the last three years. Application materials become the property of WRA.

Applications and supportive materials must be received by WRA at the address below no later than April 4, 2025. Word and/or PDF files sent by email will be accepted by the due date. The WRA Scholarship Awards Committee will select scholarship recipients in April.
